Heads Up!

The main aim of the Heads Up campaign is to provide children from families living in IPAS accommodation and from the wider community struggling under the cost of living crisis with access to pre-paid haircuts or braiding throughout the school calendar year.

This campaign reduces financial pressure on parents and gives children the confidence and dignity to feel included alongside their peers.

How It Works:

Partnerships with local hairdressers, barbers, and braiders who are willing to donate time or offer discounted services.

Estimated costs:

  • Haircut - €15

  • Basic braiding - €30

Supporters can “sponsor a style”: Donations are used to cover the cost of the service for a child.

  • Families are referred through our network or can confidentially sign up.

  • Children receive a voucher that they can take to participating salons/barbers.

  • Local businesses get recognition as partners in dignity and inclusion.

Target Groups

  • Children in Direct Provision (IPAS accommodation) whose parents live on €38.80 weekly allowance.

  • Children in low-income families in the wider community, affected by the cost-of-living crisis.

Key Messages

  • A haircut is not a luxury; it’s part of dignity, confidence, and belonging.

  • No child should feel left out, embarrassed, or excluded simply because their parents cannot afford personal care.

  • This campaign is community-led solidarity: barbers, stylists, donors, and neighbours coming together.

ECIYC Backpack 2020.jpg

There are many ways to help out with the backpack drive. You can volunteer your office to be a drop-off point, buy any of the items on the list and drop or post them to any of our drop-off points around the country, or make a donation via the donate button.

We recommend the donation of gift cards (one4all, Dunnes, Tesco, Easons, book token, etc) in €25 denominations where possible, this allows the parent/child to get exactly what they need.
